A NEW MODEL OF RESPIRATORY REHABILITATION.

Chronic respiratory failure affects 231 million people worldwide and 3.5 million in France. These people suffer from severe asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia and other rare respiratory pathologies.

Only 10% of patients carry out a regular practice of respiratory rehabilitation because the instruments currently used are off-putting and do not encourage them to continue training over the long term (no performance indicators, no exercise support, etc.).  To cope with this, the LORIO device was designed. It responds to several issues.

AN ORGANIZATIONAL CHALLENGE ...

We wish to optimize the management of respiratory rehabilitation treatment in the center.
Faced with increasingly demanding pulmonology and respiratory rehabilitation services, waiting times for patients are generally between 3 and 6 months, depending on the center in France. The use of LORIO offers patients the possibility of managing their respiratory rehabilitation independently and on a daily basis, thus improving monitoring and therefore the quality of care.

A SOCIAL CHALLENGE ...

We aim to improve the quality of life of people with respiratory insufficiency and reduce dyspnoea by procuring a fun

Respiratory rehabilitation lacks enrichment and is time-consuming, requiring a minimum daily involvement of 20 minutes.

A HEALTH CHALLENGE ...

Our goal is to limit the number of hospitalizations for respiratory exacerbation or secondary infection. Indeed, the quality of life of patients is very quickly affected by a lack of rehabilitation. In France, there are between 107,000 and 170,000 hospitalizations for respiratory exacerbation per year, 10% of which lead to death.

AN ECONOMIC CHALLENGE ...

LORIO aims to reduce the cost of expenses due to the care provided. Some hospitalizations due to rehabilitation can be avoided.

OUR STORY...

Our story began while preparing for a Hackathon, which took place at Lille University Hospital, RespirH@cktion, at the end of November 2019. It was on this occasion that we met patients with chronic respiratory pathologies (severe asthma and COPD), sometimes even on oxygen therapy. The jury, made up of patients, associations, pulmonologists and facility managers, awarded us the Jury's Coup de Coeur prize.

Revolutionizing access to care and respiratory rehabilitation, while ensuring it remains engaging and motivating for all patients, is a significant public health imperative.
